BASEBALL BLASTS FIVE HOME RUNS IN 9-0 WIN AT SEATTLE U

Box Score

BELLEVUE, Wash. – Sacramento State hit five home runs and scored nine runs over the three middle innings and three pitchers struck out 10 while allowing just three singles in a 9-0 Hornet win over Seattle U on Saturday.

The Hornets hit five home runs in a game for the first time since March 30, 2014 at New Mexico State. Sophomore James Outman had two of them, becoming the third Hornet this season to record a two-homer game.

Sacramento State (20-19, 6-8 WAC) recorded its fourth shutout of the season and clinched a series win, having also defeated Seattle U (12-24-1, 4-10 WAC) by a 3-2 score in 10 innings on Friday. Saturday's game was moved up to an 11 a.m. start to beat the rain and Sunday's finale, originally scheduled for a noon start, has also been moved to 11 a.m.

The Hornets won their fourth straight WAC game started by freshman Parker Brahms, who allowed just three singles and two walks with six strikeouts over six innings to improve to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the WAC. He did not allow an earned run for the second consecutive start and has given up two runs or fewer in each of his last four starts.

Offensively, the Hornets put up three runs in each of the three middle innings. With one away and the bases empty in the fourth senior Kody Reynolds hit his third home run in the last four games and two batters later junior PJ Floyd left the yard with a solo shot to right. Sacramento State picked up a third run in the inning after Trent Goodrich singled and stole second to score on a Ricky Martinez single.

Outman hit a solo shot with one away in the fifth inning and junior Andrew McWilliam hit a two-run homer following a single by Reynolds. The Hornets blew the game open in the sixth inning as Goodrich and junior Raul Ortiz were hit by pitches before Outman hit his second homer in as many innings with a 3-run blast to center.

Tanner Olson replaced Brahms in the seventh inning and struck out three in two scoreless innings before Austin Root closed the game with a perfect ninth. Sacramento State pitchers have struck out 24 Seattle U hitters while allowing just four walks and just one earned run through the first two games of the series. The staff has a 0.47 ERA and .138 batting average against the Redhawks.

Ian Dawkins had his 18th multi-hit game and fourth three-hit contest of the season on Saturday while Outman, Reynolds, and McWilliam all had two hits. The top six hitters in the Sacramento State batting order combined for 10 hits with five home runs and eight RBIs. Outman tied his career high with his second 4-RBI game of the season.

Sacramento State has now hit 10 home runs in four games played this week. Max Karnos will get the start on Sunday looking to complete a sweep of Seattle U.
