VOLLEYBALL WINS SIXTH STRAIGHT! PICKS UP BIG ROAD WIN AT WEBER STATE

OGDEN, Utah -- Sacramento State hit .333, and received a combined 33 kills from Victoria Marthaler (16), Keonahi'ilani Solaita (9) and Ashlynn Archer (8) on the way to a three-set sweep at Weber State (25-16, 26-24, 25-17) on Saturday evening at Swenson Gym.

The Hornets improved their winning streak to six matches - longest since seven straight in 2023. Sacramento State remains in second place in the Big Sky Conference standings with five matches left in the regular season. The Hornets are now 15-8 overall, 8-3 in the Big Sky and have not lost since a 3-2 defeat at first-place Northern Arizona on Oct. 11.

Tonight's win came against a Weber State team that had been 8-1 at home - 5-0 against Big Sky opponents. The Hornets are playing their best volleyball of the season, and completed an impressive road swing that included a 3-1 win at Idaho State on Thursday.

The Hornets were only threatened in a second set which saw the team save a set point at 23-24 (Archer kill), followed by back-to-back combo blocks from Marthaler and Skyler Gartin.

Sacramento State hit .333 compared to just .094 for the Wildcats. The Hornets also had 10.0 team blocks, including Gartin (5), Greta Davis (4), Archer (4) and setter Kate Doorn (3) who each had at least three stuffs. The match ended in a swift one hour, 24 minutes, and Weber State failed to hit better than .154 in any of the three frames.

Marthaler continued her dominance, finishing with 16 kills (five more than any player). Currently ninth in the nation in kills per set, the transfer from Weber State now has 16+ kills in 12 straight matches. Archer's eight kills accompanied a .727 hitting percentage as the senior had zero errors in 11 swings. Solaita, a true freshman, had nine kills and hit .348. Her kill on match point completed a third set in which Solaita had five kills without an error in seven attacks.

Doorn had 30 assists, three aces, seven digs and three blocks, and libero Abbey Kadillak finished with a match-best 13 digs. Greta Davis had three kills, a .500 hitting percentage and four blocks, and Mia Guevara finished with five digs.

For the second straight night, the Hornets played without Reese Ampi and Amy Ito because of injury.

Of the Hornets' final five matches, three will come at home. The team opens a three-match homestand on Thursday vs. Northern Arizona at 7 p.m. With a win Thursday, the Hornets would move into a tie for first place.
