CERES, Calif. — Sophia Dudley,
Marina Lipary and
Tia Oliver each finished in the top 10 to help the Hornets narrowly miss the team title at the Kim Duyst Twilight Invitational on Saturday night.
In a rare meet under the lights, the Hornet women finished in second place with 76 points while host Stanislaus State won the meet with 75. The remainder of the top five was comprised Chico State (80), UC Davis (97) and Nevada (115).
The Sacramento State finished in eighth place with 241 points and was led by
Ryan Martin who placed 22nd. UC Davis won the team title with 54 points while Cal was second at 61.
In the women's 6K race, Dudley was seventh with a time of 21:17.0. She was immediately followed in the standings by Lipary (21:17.5) and Oliver (21:20.5).
Anna Harmon also landed in the top 20 by placing 16th overall in 21:30.3 in her first race of the season. The remaining time towards the team total belonged to freshman
Keira Quigley who ran 22:12.4 to place 43rd.
Martin paced the men's team for the second-consecutive meet after running 24:27.2.
Brandon Moreno was not far behind as he placed 27th in 24:36.0. The team also counted times from
Koby Sperandeo (69th, 25:27.3),
Noah Mikusevich (104th, 26:05.1) and
Thomas Rasner (111th, 26:10.9).
Sacramento State will next compete at the UCR Invitational on Sept. 27.
