GOLD RIVER, Calif. --- The Sacramento State women's rowing squad competed in its first and only race of the fall season at the Head of the American Saturday morning on Lake Natoma.
Saturday's racing took place on a three-mile course with a time trial start format. Sacramento State competed three boats in the Collegiate Eight (34-boat field), and one entry in the Collegiate Novice Eight (9-boat field).
In the Collegiate Eight, Power Five crews dominated the majority of the top spots. In fact, a Power Five institution took up 10 of the top 11 spots. San Diego was the lone non-Power Five school to finish ahead of the Hornets' A boat, placing ninth with a time of 17:50.3. Sacramento State's A boat placed 12th with a time of 18:05.7, finishing ahead of three UCLA crews and two USC boats.
The Hornets' B boat placed 22nd with an 18:53.7, while the C boat was 24th with a 19:06.2.
In the Collegiate Novice Eight, the Hornets' time of 21:03.0 was fourth out of nine entries, finishing ahead of crews from Saint Mary's, UC Davis, Cal, and Cal Poly.
