TRACK & FIELD CLOSES FIRST DAY OF PAIR OF MEETS WITH EIGHT SCHOOL TOP 10S

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Sacramento State track and field strategy of putting its student-athletes at two different meets proved to be the right choice as the Hornets combined for nine school top 10 marks at the Don Kirby Invitational and Husky Classic on Friday.

The Hornet women produced three school top 10s in the 200. Zoe Ewell led the way in 24.27 to record the fifth fastest time at Sacramento State. Ewell's time was .45 seconds better than her previous best. Breija Stredic ran 24.47 and now ranks seventh in school history while freshman Tristian Campbell had a time of 24.54 which places her eighth in the Hornet record book.

Campbell also moved up to fifth place in school history in the women's 400 with a time of 54.93. That time took four-tenths off her previous best. Emily Giddens now ranks seventh all-time at Sacramento State with a 400-time of 55.86.

A week after competing in the high jump for the first time in their career, Jessi Barry cleared 5-07.75 to tie for fourth place in the meet on Friday. Barry had a 1.75-inch improvement since the last meet and is now tied for fourth in program history. Their mark is the best by a Hornet since 2017.

Nathan Rider completed the top 10s for the men at the Kirby Invitational as he ran 21.64 in the 200 and now ranks fifth in school history. Rider's previous best was 21.76.

While not setting career bests, Miles Grant and Malachi Cox both had strong showings at the meet. Grant finished third in the high jump after clearing 6-11.75. The senior has now had a successful attempt of at least 6-11.00 in three meets this year. Cox placed sixth in the 400 after running 48.08 which was just five-thousandths of a second off his PR.

At the Husky Classic, Tia Oliver continued her climb up the school top 10. Oliver entered the meet ranked third all-time at Sacramento State with a best of 9:53.35 but shave nearly eight seconds off that mark on Friday and is now second in Hornet history in 9:45.23.
