ALBUQUERQUE, N.M./SEATTLE — Ava Fitzgerald and
Brandon Moreno each set school records to lead seven school top 10s and 14 personal bests by Sacramento State student-athletes on Saturday at a pair of meets.
Â
A week after moving into second place in the 60-hurdles, Fitzgerald improved her Big Sky Conference-leading time with a mark of 8.31 seconds in the finals. That time vaulted her above Sakya Bolton's mark of 8.37 which had stood since 2012. Fitzgerald finished in sixth place at the star-studded Don Kirby Elite and also added a career-best 7.77 seconds in the 60-meter dash.
Â
Moreno was competing at the Husky Classic in Seattle and broke his own school record in the mile. The Sacramento native ran 4:07.19 to take a fraction of a second off his previous best of 4:07.47 which also came on the Dempsey Indoor track. At the Kirby Elite,
Ryan Martin ran the mile in 4:14.00 and is now ninth all-time at Sacramento State.
Â
The Hornet women also had success at the Husky Classic with
Viviana Valenton and
Tia Oliver each cracking the school top 10 in the mile and
Ashley Busienei providing a PR. Valenton ran 4:54.26 to move into fourth place in program history while Oliver is now eighth with a time of 4:58.07. Oliver's effort came a day after she ran the second-best 3K by a Sacramento State woman.
Â
In the 800,
Dominique Abbott and
Jake Slade each landed in the Sacramento State top 10. Abbott posted a time of 2:11.18 which ranks seventh on the women's list while Slade crossed in 1:53.19 and is now tied for fourth place on the men's top 10.
Â
While not recording a school top 10, all four of the team's entries in the women's triple jump set season or personal bests. The group was led by a season-best 40-02.75 from
Tamia Ramos and also included a PR of 39-03.00 from
Audrey McElmurry.
Â
After a weekend off, Sacramento State will next compete at the Big Sky Indoor Championships in Flagstaff, Ariz., on Feb. 27-Mar. 1.
