TRACK & FIELD TALLIES FIVE EVENT WINS AT AGGIE OPEN

DAVIS, Calif. — Led by three wins in the horizontal jumps, the Sacramento track and field teams recorded 35 top-five finishes at the Aggie Open on Saturday at UC Davis. The meet was the first outdoor competition for the team this season. 

WOMEN'S TRACK HIGHLIGHTS

  • After establishing herself as the fastest woman in the Big Sky at the indoor championships, Zoe Ewell on the 100 to start the outdoor season, Ewell finished with a time of 11.88 seconds to win the race by .01 seconds over UC Davis' Maya Schinnick.
  • Anna Harmon earned a win, and led three Hornets in the top four, in the women's 1500. Harmon posted a time of 4:40.56 to earn her first career event title at Sacramento State. Dominique Abbott was third overall in 4:46.69 and Lilly Escorcia was fourth in 4:50.83.
  • Tristian Campbell, Breija Stredic and Emily Giddens were second, third and fifth in the 200. Campbell edged Stredic by .04 seconds with both running into a headwind of minus-2.9 meters/second.
  • Kate Sanders had the first top-three finish of the day in the running events for the Hornets as she placed third in the 3K in 10:01.64.
  • Eliana Coburn was second in the 100-hurdles, running 14.41.

WOMEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS

  • Audrey McElmurry claimed the top spot in the women's triple jump. McElmurry's best of 40-06.00 came on her second attempt and she went on to finish 4-feet, 8.5 inches beyond the rest of the field.
  • Tamia Ramos led a trio of Sacramento State athletes in the top five of the long jump. Ramos was second with a leap of 18-03.00. R'kai Davis placed fifth at 17-04.25 and Kasee Aczon was fifth at 17-02.25.
  • Chandler Miller was second in the high jump after clearing 5-03.75.
  • Eliana Coburn had a pair of top-five showings as she was fourth in the high jump (5-01.75) and fifth in the javelin (102-03).

MEN'S TRACK HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sacramento State had three second-place finishes in the running events. Xavier Bruce ran 10.65 in the 100, Aiden Maddison was second in the 1500 behind a time of 4:00.13 and Jack Charlton had a time of 15.47 in the 110-hurdles. 
  • In the 200, Nathan Rider and Bruce finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 22.42 and 22.45.
  • Andrew Abello and Logan Borg each placed in the top five of the 400. Abello was fourth in 49.62 while Borg had a time of 49.78 to finish one spot back. 

MEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS

  • Michael Cherry and Kellan Quinley swept the top spots in the horizontal jumps. Cherry won the long jump in his first outdoor meet with the Hornets behind a best of 20-10.00. Quinley followed his strong indoor season with a win the triple jump at 46-00.50. Joshua Braun joined Quinley in the top five of the TJ after placing fourth (42-05.50).
  • Freshmen Emmanuel Akutey and Geroge Stansell each had a pair of top-five showings in the throws. Akutey was second in the shot put (48-06.25) and fourth in the hammer (139-08). Stansell was one spot back in both events with marks of 137-05 and 43-01.75.
  • Kyle Smith, matched Akutey for the top finisher for the team in the throws, placing second in the discus with a best of 159-02.
