TRACK & FIELD WINDS DOWN HORNET INVITATIONAL WITH THREE SCHOOL TOP FIVE MARKS

Hornets close lone regular season meet of the year; honor senior class

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Tia Oliver, Zoe Ewell and the women's 4x100 relay team each set school top five marks and were part of 23 personal bests by Sacramento State student-athletes at the Hornet Invitational on Saturday.

The meet served as the lone regular season action for the team at Hornet Stadium prior to hosting the Big Sky Outdoor Championships in May. Prior to the meet, Sacramento State recognized its 24 seniors.

Women's Track Highlights

  • The Hornets wasted little time recording top 10 performances in school history as Tia Oliver won the steeplechase in 10:29.92. The time moved Oliver into second place all-time at Sacramento State and was the fastest by a Hornet since Kristina Holtz set the school record of 10:27.53 in 2008. Oliver's previous best was 10:46.73 set last season which had ranked third in program history.
  • In the next women's race, Jessi Barry, Ava Fitzgerald, Kassidy Schroth and Zoe Ewell combined to run 45.26 in the 4x100 relay. The quartet finished second in the race overall as Cal State San Bernardino ran 45.257 compared to 45.260 by the Hornets. Competing in the event for the first time this season, Fitzgerald ran 13.56 to place second behind San Jose State's Sky Hagan (13.26) who posted the fastest time in NCAA Div.
