GOLD RIVER, Calif. -- Sacramento State's varsity eight, second varsity eight, and varsity four each won their respective heats on the first day of the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championship on Saturday morning at Lake Natoma.
All three of those Hornet boats will advance to tomorrow morning's grand finals, as well as the Hornets' third varsity eight which placed third in the 2V8 heat.
Hornet times for tomorrow morning are as follows:
8:30 am Grand Final - Varsity Eight
9:20 am Grand Final - Second Varsity Eight (3V8 will also compete)
10:40 am Grand Final - Varsity Four
Sacramento State's varsity eight, with just two seniors in the boat, easily won its heat with a time of 6:46.74 over 2,000 meters. The Hornets' second varsity eight won its heat with a 6:56.37 (the third varsity eight went 7:12.79), and the varsity four placed first in its heat with a 7:41.04.
