MILES GRANT ADVANCES TO NCAA OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Senior sets career-best in high jump at NCAA West First Round

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Sacramento State track and field season will not come to a close this weekend as Miles Grant advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the high jump.

Grant was one of only four jumpers to not have a miss during the day as he cleared 6-08.25, 6-10.75, 7-00.25 and 7-01.50 on his first attempt at each height. His final jump moved him into a tie for third place in school outdoor history and was the best by a Hornet since Adolfo Lopez in 1994. The school record of 7-03.00 by Joe Radan has stood since 1979.

Grant, a senior from Portland, Ore., will get a chance to compete close to home in his final meet. The NCAA Div. I Outdoor Championships will be held at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., on June 11-14. Grant will compete on Friday, June 13, at 4:30 p.m. PT.

Kellan Quinley had his season come to an end on Friday as he finished in 41st place in the men's triple jump. The junior fouled on his first attempt and then followed with a jump of 47-06.50. He improved to 48-01.25 on his final attempt.

Sacramento State's final entry at the NCAA West First Round will be Tia Oliver in the women's steeplechase on Saturday. Oliver will race in the third heat which will begin at approximately 4 p.m. PT.
