EWELL, MARTIN CRACK TOP 10; FITZGERALD, RAMOS WIN EVENTS AT SPOKANE INDOOR

Hornets conclude two-meet weekend

SPOKANE, Wash. — Sacramento State completed a two-meet weekend with a pair of school top 10s and two event victories at the Spokane Indoor Challenge on Saturday. The Hornets will next return to the Pacific Northwest next weekend for the Lauren McCluskey Memorial in Moscow, Idaho.
 
WOMEN'S TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
  • Zoe Ewell ran a career-best 24.79 in the 200 to move into 10th place in school history. Ewell becomes the fifth Hornet woman to be ranked in the top 10 of the 60 and 200. Ewell finished in fourth place in the 200 and was fifth in the 60 (7.59).
  • Ava Fitzgerald earned a victory in the 60-hurdles. Fitzgerald ran 8.71 to qualify for the finals and then dropped her time to 8.59 to win the race by two-hundredths of a second.
  • Jessi Barry placed third in the 60. Barry qualified seventh but took a .10 seconds off her time to take third in the finals.
  • Breija Stredic was second in the 400 and was joined Emily Giddens and Jayla Cigar-Dingle in the top eight. Stredic ran 57.44 while Giddens crosse din 57.71 and Cigar-Dingle in 59.83.
  • Lilly Escorcia and Dominique Abbott were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 800. Escorcia ran 2:18.12 while Abbott had a time of 2:18.88.
  • The 4x400 relay team of Stredic, Tristian Campbell, Giddens and Cigar-Dingle finished second in 3:51.12.
 
MEN'S TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
  • Ryan Martin made his indoor career debut and moved into fifth place in school history in the 3K. Martin finished the race if 8:28.25 to place eighth overall.
  • The highest finish on the track belonged to the 4x400 relay team of Malachi Cox, Logan Borg, Nathan Rider and Andrew Abello. The quartet ran 3:21.43 and had the fastest time among the three Big Sky Conference schools in the race.
  • Jack Charlton finished fifth in the 60-hurdles. Charlton was consistent in his two races, running 8.49 in the qualifying round and 8.48 in the finals.
  • Cox finished third in the 400 in 48.59. He was joined in the top eight by Nathan Rider who ran 49.57.
  • Irven Hill set a PR and placed sixth in the 800 with a time of 1:57.10. The mark was 1.66 seconds faster than his previous best.
 
WOMEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
  • Tamia Ramos won the triple jump with a leap of 40-02.25. Ramos was the only competitor to cross 40 feet and won the title by 13 inches. Ramos had five legal jumps of at least 38-07.00 during the day.
  • Barry was second in the long jump with a best of 18-01.00 on her final attempt. That effort moved her from seventh place into second. Mara Vonnahme finished seventh in the competition with a best of 17-04.75.
  • Abby Sheets, Chandler Miller and Eliana Coburn each cleared 5-03.25 in the high jump. Based on the tie-breaker of fewest jumps needed, Sheets was fifth, Miller sixth and Coburn seventh in the final standings.
  • Hope Gordon and Mai Ricks each placed among the top eight in the shot put. Gordon had a long of 39-11.25 while Ricks produced a put of 38-06.00.
 
MEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
  • Mason Mitchell had the top finish for the Hornets in their three field events. Mitchell finished in fourth place in the long jump with a long of 22-05.00.
  • Andrew Lehner led the team in the pole vault after clearing 14-00.50 to finish ninth. Joshua Braun also set a PR in the event at 13-00.75. Braun's previous best was 12-07.50.
