TRACK & FIELD GETS BIG RESULTS FROM SMALL CREW AT FIRST DAY OF UW INVITATIONAL

SEATTLE, Wash. — The Sacramento State track and field team only had 11 student-athletes competing during the first day of the UW Invitational but that did not prevent the team from accumulating four school top 10 marks and 10 personal bests on Friday.

The distance runners took the spotlight during the day as Aiden Maddison, Tia Oliver and Ryan Martin each improved their standing in the school top 10 in their respective events. Maddison made his season debut and ran 15:11.52 in the 5K. His time was over a six-second improvement but kept him seventh in school history. A few minutes later, Oliver jumped from eighth to third in the Hornet record book with a 3K time of 9:53.55. Oliver had moved into the top 10 earlier this year with a time of 9:59.42 at the Spokane Sports Showcase. Martin immediately followed by running the men's 3K in 8:20.60. The sophomore shaved nearly eight seconds off his previous best and vaulted all the way to second in Sacramento State history. Martin now trails only Reesey Byers who set the school record of 8:11.25 in 2012.

Eliana Coburn moved into third place in school history in the pentathlon with 3,729 points. Coburn began the competition with a career-best 60-hurdles time of 8.68 seconds. She added a high jump of 5-05.75 and followed with a shot put of 35-04.00. A long jump of 17-00.00 came before a career best 800 of 2:25.96.

The men were represented by Jack Charlton and Joshua Braun in the first four events of the heptathlon. Charlton had marks of 7.14 in the 60, 19-10.75 in the long jump, 40-10.25 in the shot put and 5-09.25 in the high jump. He is currently fourth with 2,260 points. Braun ran 7.37 in the 60, long jumped 19-08.25 and set PRs with a shot put of 32-08.50 and a high jump of 5-07.00. He is sixth with 2,370 points.

The other PRs for Sacramento State during the day came from Jameel McDaniels in the 200 (22.47) and Emmanuel Akutey in the weight throw (46-03.50).
