TRACK & FIELD CAPS WOLF PACK CLASSIC WITH BIG DAY

RENO, Nev. — The Sacramento State track and field teams had not competed in an indoor track meet in Reno, Nev., in 18 years but based on this weekend's results, the team may never want to leave. The Hornets took advantage of the altitude and new surface to record eight school top 10s and 16 personal bests during the second day of the Wolf Pack Classic on Saturday.

The women accounted for five of the school top 10s in two events. Breija Stredic, Tristian Campbell and Emily Giddens each either improved their position or moved into the school record in the 400. Stredic led the trio with a time of 55.86 seconds which placed her third in the race. That mark was a full second better than her previous PR and took her into fourth place in school history. Campbell was fifth overall in 55.33 and the freshman moved up to sixth in program history. Giddens cracked the top 10 by recording 10th place with a mark of 55.86.

As expected the three returned to run the 4x400 relay along with Dominique Abbott. The quartet ran a season-best 3:46.64 for the seventh-fastest time in program history and the fourth-best in the Big Sky this season.

In the women's high jump, Jessi Barry and Abby Sheets each cleared 5-06.00 to tie for the ninth highest mark in school history. Barry, who was competing in the indoor high jump for the first time in her career, finished in second place overall at the meet. Sheets finished third based on number of attempts.

The final top 10 for the women came from Zoe Ewell in the 200. Ewell ran 24.72 and now ranks ninth in the Hornet record book after taking .07 off her PR which was set earlier this season.

Other notable PRs for the women came from Sheets in the shot put with a long of 44-00.50 to finish in fourth place and Audrey McElmurry in the triple jump (38-09.75) to place seventh overall. Tamia Ramos added a top five finish in the triple jump where she was fourth with a best of 39-10.75.

Miles Grant led the men by winning the high jump after clearing 6-11.75. The victory was the second for Grant this season in the event in three meets. Freshman Eli Kaltreider is now tied for eighth in school history with a best of 6-08.75.

Kellan Quinley finished fourth in the triple jump with a PR of 47-11.75. That distance was 3.75-inches beyond his previous best.

In the running events, the 4x400 relay team of Malachi Cox, Irven Hill, Nathan Rider and Logan Borg finished first behind a time of 3:19.50.

Cox had the top finish for the men in running events by running 48.31 to finish fourth. Aiden Maddison was fifth in the 3K behind a PR of 8:50.13.

Sacramento State will split its squad next week, competing at the Husky Classic in Seattle and the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., on Friday and Saturday.
